Easy And Simple Recipe Ideas For Thanksgiving

Food is the center of attention at Thanksgiving.  The Pilgrims worked hard to make the new world their home, and this was their celebration.  Every year it's a traditional meal.  Turkey, sometimes ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, rolls or bread, pumpkin pie and apple pie, and a variety of other trimmings adorn the holiday table.  History aside, families also like to get everyone together in one room.  Thanksgiving dinner recipes can be quite different, as there are many ways to cook a turkey.

Doesn't this appetizer sound delicious?  Move the pumpkin from dessert to the start of the meal as a savory Pumpkin soup.  Butter and oil simmer over a medium heat. Add leaks to saute, only the white portion, until soft. Pumpkin puree, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and salt join the party.  After that's all mixed, add 32 ounces of vegetable broth. Stir in one quarter cup of brown sugar.  Simmer for 10 minutes over low heat. Cream or half and half are optional, along with a pinch of cinnamon on top of each bowl.  Mmmm boy that's delicious.

A turkey can be fried instead of broiled.  Don't worry, fried turkey isn't greasy.  The oil is so hot it sears the skin, thus the oil can't penetrate it.  For this task a big oil pot and propane burner are used.  Turkey fryers can be found in stores like Walmart.  Check the meat with a meat thermometer and the oil temperature with an oil thermometer.  Make sure to fry outside in a clear area.  Heat the oil to between 325 degrees and 350 degrees F.  The turkey takes about three minutes per pound to fry to about 170 degrees F in the breast.  Dressing isn't fried inside the turkey, but spices can be injected into it.

Try hazelnut pumpkin soup or a butternut squash stuffing.  But there are other good appetizers for the meal.  Cheese wrapped asparagus is delicious.  Use two cheeses, one spread and one sliced.  A blue cheese spread over slices of swiss can be good.  The slices are spread with the other cheese, wrapped around a few spears, and cooked at 230C until the asparagus is soft.  Sure wrapping cheese around asparagus turns a pretty healthy food into something a little more fattening.  But Thanksgiving isn't a time for a diet.  Live a little!
